Balancing: - Eva threw up in the car on our way there - Sarah screamed all the way there and fell asleep 5 minutes before we parked - Went the wrong way and never reached the pools we wanted to see - Eva spilled a whole glass of water on herself - Eva dropped a box of rice we brought for her to eat, stepped in the rice and then sat in a chair with her feet + Managed to finish hike in one piece + Laughed a lot + Nobody died + Igor is very happy + Very pretty flowers along the way! Summing up: fun as long as there's no minimum plan and no one is anxious

Everything in the end falls into one of two categories: bullshit vs vital.
Igor has succumbed to a virus and has a fever. So he went to bed at 8pm and put all his energy into healing. Due to this evening shower, pajamas, sweets policy, bedtime hour and brushing teeth are in the bullshit list. On days like this I don't fight or insist, I wait it out and hit when thgey have no energy to fight. Vital list includes removing eye makeup, loading the washing machine and writing a post. So, we did survive two flights outbound and a short layover in Prague. Obviously because I am a genius parent. Joking :) because my husband is very calm, because we had some family traveling with us and because I function on lowest gear possible and don't let myself be dragged into confrontations and because my kids are perfect and pretty calm. Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport was a piece of cake. Even though it mostly doesn't have special treatment for children — asking people kindly to skip the line helped. We went through checkin, passport control and security in 45 minutes. Then there's a small playground for children — Eva took over and built herself an obstacle course. I was quite surprised as to how much energy a toddler can have at 2am. We were sitting a few meters away and she checked in every couple of minutes. Sarah and Leah slept in turns in the stroller and in the carrier. At some point I even took Eva to the duty free to get her a treat and didn't lose her.
The hardest part of the trip was sitting in the plane waiting for an hour and a half due to heavy traffic at the airport. At that point the babies started to lose it in turns, Sarah is very sensitive and she's sometimes hard to console. I bet everyone in the plane expected their worst flight ever, but in reality babies shut up and fell asleep right when we started moving, Eva was very excited and kept asking what makes such a loud noise and looked at the sunrise from the window. Then we made her a nest from pillows and a sling carrier and she was quite happy to fall asleep. Babies slept and woke randomly, sometimes screaming, but generally content. Our arms, however, quickly went numb holding them — they are 8kg each and don't sit yet. The layover was easy, we got the stroller at the exit from the plane — Not getting it was the main thing I was afraid of. We don't get nervous changing in the middle of everything, Prague has hot water in the bathrooms so everybody changed and fresh we continued on. Writing this on our last leg already having some insights. In the future I will do my best to avoid low cost companies. If you're rich — opt for business class :) It's best to have an extra set of hands and / or ask for help. We couldn't even exchange babies on our own not sitting next to each other. And it's impossible to sit next to each other with babies — not enough oxygen masks. Layover is not the end of the world if it's long enough to allow the toddler to move at her own pace. We had a chance to stop at a playground in Prague — Eva was very happy. Bring food! For the toddler especially! We have a huge freezer bag with cut vegetables, meatballs, cooked pasta, pastry and sandwiches. We didn't finish it all but it's better than trying to feed a hungry and tired toddler in a coffeeshop. Also, try to sleep the night before (ha ha ha) well I did manage to stuff all our gear into the usual suitcases we travel with. And then we have:
Мне удалось впихнуть невпихуемое в наши стандартные два чемодана. Кроме чемоданов у нас так же есть:
this is the first time in almost a year that we live here that Eva woke up in the middle with f the night and invaded our bed. Igor capitulated to the living room leaving me to see twins sensitive sleep slowly deteriorating into the mess our bed is right now — a bored toddler, freshly awake happy twin Leah and screechy tired twin Sarah. Good morning!
We're 5 so we don't fit in one taxi. Or we do, because babies are not considered people. We aren't too responsible so we don't take a car seat with us when we ride a taxi. So apparently for now we do fit in one taxi.
Since she was born Eva made at least 10 flights. We did our best to exploit the free tickets for babies. She doesn't remember a thing. The first trip we took her on was when she was 8 weeks old. She slept when she could and was cute the rest of the time. Today we're almost ready for our first trip with all the clan. My packing list is 2 pages long, 8 columns wide. I am certain I will forget something. I hope it's nothing vital. I am scared shitless – the twins are nowhere as convenient as Eva and are anal about their sleep. Also, the adult to child ratio is not in our favor, at least not on our way back (outbound Igor had secured his cousin and her two daughters to give us a hand)
At one point I asked about traveling with twins and a toddler. The proper parent group advice was summed up as "you will suffer so don't even bother". I am determined to prove them wrong. |
